Effective April 1st, 2023, the texting industry’s sole aggregator for toll-free numbers is implementing new limits to messaging traffic for restricted and pending toll-free numbers. Currently pending numbers that have not yet been verified as of April 1st will be subject to these new traffic limits. Messaging that exceeds the limits in the chart below will not be delivered.
Trumpia is well aware of these new regulations and is here to help you transition through this new verification process. Please be aware that it may take up to 4-5 weeks for your pending number to be approved. Again, this is affecting all providers and text programs that rely upon toll-free texting.
Why Is This Happening?
The carriers are taking proactive measures to apply pre-approval standards to toll-free messaging similar to the current requirements for short codes and 10DLC (local long codes). This reflects the carrier’s goal to eventually not support traffic on any code type unless the program has been whitelisted.
What do I need to know?
Firstly, if you have already verified your number, no further action is needed. If you have submitted your number for verification, you also do not need to take any further action, you simply need to wait for the verification process to be completed.
If you are a Trumpia customer and have not submitted your number for verification, you need to start this process immediately. To start the Toll-free number verification process, please call our support line at 1-888-707-3030 (Option 2)
What are Pending and Restricted Numbers?
Pending numbers are numbers that have been submitted but have not yet been approved. Please note that numbers under pending status are still subject to content spam filters. Some examples of content that is ineligible include: Multi-level marketing, high-risk financial content (loan, debt, crypto), Text2Win, and stock alerts. The above is not a comprehensive list of prohibited use cases.
Restricted Numbers are defined as numbers that have not started the verification process or have been rejected. If a number is rejected, the owner of the number will be informed if it is eligible for resubmission pending an additional information request.
What are the messaging limits for Pending and Restricted Numbers?
Restricted Numbers Limits:
Current limit | Limit effective April 1, 2023
Daily limit | 2,000 | 500 |
Weekly limit | 12,000 | 1,000 |
Monthly limit | 25,000 | 2,000 |
Pending Number Limits:
Current limit | Limit effective April 1, 2023
Daily limit | No limit | 2,000 |
Weekly limit | No limit | 6,000 |
Monthly limit | 500,000 | 10,000 |
For messaging to Canada, registration will still need to be completed for all toll-free numbers before any messages can be sent.
What do you need to do?
The best way to continue sending high volumes of toll-free traffic is to verify your toll-free number. If your toll-free number is currently already verified, no action is required.
The toll-free aggregator is currently experiencing a higher-than-normal volume of verification requests, so please submit your numbers for verification as soon as possible, prioritizing your high-traffic numbers, to avoid any negative impact due to the new daily, weekly, and monthly limits.
To submit your toll-free number for verification or to verify the verification status of your toll-free number, please call support at 1-888-707-3030 (Option 2) or contact your account manager today.
Thank you,
The Trumpia Team
